My husband is off work this week and we are on our way to a mini vacation (coincidentally, it is also our one-year anniversary of our PreEngaged blog - so, thank you for reading and sharing us with others!). I am so excited. It is nothing extravagant, but it will be a change of pace and we will have time to hang out with no stress and few responsibilities. We have not gone on too many trips since we were wed – and when we have gone somewhere, it has usually involved family or professional training of some kind. So, what changed - how are we getting away now? A few weeks ago, Eric popped up … [Read more...]
Find Your Calling Together
So many people go through life believing they are less worthy of accomplishing their dreams than others – and I know firsthand, because that has been me. Upon meeting new people, I automatically assumed they were smarter, more likeable, and, in general, better than me. While I'm not one hundred percent sure of the roots of these beliefs, I do know they have been debilitating to me. For that reason, among many, I am thankful for my husband. The Fear of Others (or, How Eric and I First Met)
Why am I so afraid of people? This is a question I've asked myself many times. I can't count the times I've avoided speaking to people I've seen sitting alone out of fear of their reaction. What did I think was going to happen? I guess they could've spit on me; they could've rolled their eyes and said, "Leave me alone;" they may have even ignored me completely. What would I have done then? Upon further reflection, I realize that I would've gone right on living. Not only would I have gone on living, but the possibility of someone responding in any of those ways is rare. Chances are I've … [Read more...]
Continue to Accomplish Something
When is the last time you set your mind on something and accomplished it? Maybe it was a college degree; perhaps, it was a half or full marathon; maybe you set your mind on captivating and winning a young lady's heart. Accomplishing difficult endeavors does the heart good and determination pays huge dividends in the end. A friend of mine recently completed an Iron Woman and she said that completing it felt better than the day she graduated college. While I've never experienced an Iron Woman, I can only imagine how amazing it must have felt for her to train, grow, and accomplish something so … [Read more...]
