Before I had a dog, I really did not understand the bond other people had with their dogs. In my mind, dogs were cute, cuddly, and simply pets. Until I got my own dog, I was blissfully unaware of how much work they are and how much time they take. Not only that, but dogs need their owners for almost everything – unless you live in the country and your dog hunts its own food. Sometimes as we are playing with Ramsey (our golden retriever) or scratching her head, we ask her, "What do you do in return for all of this great care you receive?" (Not that we expect an answer... ~smile~) She eats … [Read more...]
Is Your Potential Mate Too Possessive?
Today, I have been power-cooking and power-cleaning! Tomorrow, I leave for a few days to help my sister-in-law out after her surgery; so I've been trying to prepare food for Eric to eat while I'm gone and get the house in decent order since my father-in-law will be visiting next weekend. It is an awesome privilege to be able to provide a little help and company to my sister-in-law during this time. I'm sure if the roles were reversed, I would want her help and company. Plus, she's such a sweetheart; it's a pleasure spending time with her! As I am preparing to leave, I am reminded of what a … [Read more...]
Do You Fear the Slobber?
My parents enjoy the visits Eric and I make to their house and they find Ramsey (our golden retriever) to be a wealth of entertainment. They love sitting on the porch and watching her chase thrown Frisbees. They laugh heartily when she steals someone's underwear and proceeds to drag it all over the house. They love giving her treats and watching her gobble them up. And they think she looks so sweet when she's sleeping. But... They can't stand her slobber. When she bounces up to them with a toy in her mouth that she wants them to either tug or throw, they say “eww, no thank you” or “Go to … [Read more...]
Get an Instant Face Lift for Free!
Do you want to get an instant face lift for free? Read on! As discussed in my last post, jealousy is ugly. It takes the glow out of your face and replaces it with wrinkles and frown lines. Jealousy leads to discontentment and a lifestyle of discontentment makes one miserable. But, when someone chooses contentment, joy, and self sacrifice, it instantly improves his or her appearance. No matter how unattractive people may be, when their faces light up, their looks instantly improve. Just a little while prior to leaving for college, my godmother confronted me about my attitude. I was going … [Read more...]
Unhealthy Jealousy
Who among us has not struggled with jealously at one time or another? It starts when we are kids and the girl down the street gets a new bike, or the boy in our class gets to take karate lessons and you can't. A few years later we find ourselves at a stoplight, behind the wheel of our parent's old car, only to have the biggest jerk you know pull up beside us in a brand new car (and doesn't it always seem to be the car of our dreams?). Then, adulthood comes and everyone else seems to be getting married or having babies but us. Or, maybe all of your friends are in their dream jobs and you are … [Read more...]
