Our golden retriever, Ramsey, has entered a phase where she stops and decides if she's going to obey me or not. She obeys Eric automatically {Eric’s note: most of the time, not always}, but it feels like I have the word ‘pushover’ stamped on my forehead. This past week, she was playing outside when she spotted a little boy from down the street riding on his scooter. When the little boy stopped to play with another dog, her insides looked like they were going to come wiggling out. The temptation to run across the street and play was so great! Then, it happened... she couldn't take it anymore … [Read more...]
What Time of Day are You at Your Best?
This past week I've been cooped up in the house with an annoying cold. Tonight I went to Kroger (a local supermarket) and it was wonderful! An errand that usually gets on my nerves was wonderful to me after not being able to leave the house in days. Part of why I enjoyed it so much is because I went around 11pm. The store was almost empty and I had all the aisles to myself, for the most part. There were enough people there that it didn't feel eerie, but it was almost like having entire store at my disposal. It is no secret to those who know me that I am more alert at night than in the … [Read more...]
Reacting to Disappointment
If some days you're the windshield and some days you're the bug, then I've been the bug for five days. Having a sore throat, congestion, an annoying cough, ear pain and absolutely no energy, I am starting to feel helpless and worthless in my own skin. (This is also why last week's entries were sparse on our blog - sorry about that!) Yesterday, I emptied the dishwasher and washed a load of towels (which are still in the dryer waiting to be folded) and those were my only big accomplishments. So far this week, I have had to cancel lunch with a friend, movie night with another friend, coffee … [Read more...]
Mom Built a Bridge to My Heart
In celebration of Mother’s Day yesterday, we’re going to talk about moms today. What are some of your fondest memories with your mother? My mom and I used to share a lot of Friday night laughs because we were both so tired we'd laugh at anything. We enjoyed sitting and chatting over a cheap combo meal while we were out shopping. We still love reminiscing over silly mistakes we've made, or how we made fools of ourselves in various situations. There are lots of mini-memories I have with my mom, but perhaps the most powerful memory I have of her is when she took a day off of work to be with me … [Read more...]
If You Had Ten Million Dollars…
A fun “getting to know you” question to ask your date, boyfriend/girlfriend, or fiancé/fiancée is this: “What would you do if you suddenly had ten million dollars?” The way a person spends his or her money can tell you a lot about his or her character; but, it is also fun to consider what you really would do with that kind of money. If I had ten million dollars, I would tithe to God (by definition of the word “tithe”, that would be ten percent). After that, I'd have some serious fun. My idea of serious fun is buying and giving gifts. First of all, I would probably take a million or two … [Read more...]
