We all know one. You know, that person who has studied the Bible endlessly, but instead of applying its truth to his or her own life, he or she chooses to use Scripture as a dagger toward others. Biblical knowledge is good, but we must live out what it says, not use it to wound others. Biblical Knowledge Of course, we all can stand to know more about God’s Word. Even old saints who have served God for years read the Bible and learn something new. We could read the Bible daily for a thousand years and still uncover nuggets we had never previously noticed. God speaks to us through His Word. … [Read more...]
Shake, Ramsey, Shake…
Have you ever been thoroughly frustrated with someone only to have the Holy Spirit convict you of doing the same thing? A friend of mine recalls asking her children, “Why can’t you just obey me the first time I tell you to do something?!” Ouch. We have all fallen short of obeying God the first time He tells us to do something, whether He communicates to us through the Bible or whether we hear His still small voice speaking to our hearts. Puppies Love Treats! Training Ramsey (our golden retriever) as a puppy was no easy task, but doggie treats made it easier. She learned to sit, stay, … [Read more...]
Are You Asking God for His Input?
When Eric and I were just college buddies, I drove my friends crazy talking about him. Even though he had made it clear that he was not pursuing me and that we were only friends, I still found myself wondering if we would ever become a couple. Apparently, it was on my mind a lot as one of my college friends said I talked about the possibility constantly. ~smile~ I can remember praying constantly too. I am the type of person who can take a hint. In fact, I will create hints that do not exist. If I think even for a second that I am not wanted some place, I will hit the road. So, it still … [Read more...]
This Too Shall Pass
Today, as I was walking my dog, I heard a song I haven’t heard in a while and it took me back about fifteen years. The song is “Beyond” by Aaron Geoffrey and is a song I used to love as a teenager. In fact, I used to sing it at church fairly often. It was one of those songs that I would sing if I didn’t have time to prepare a new song or if I was in the mood for an old standby. I can remember singing it on my sixteenth birthday. Though I had some grasp of what this song was saying then, I think time and life experience has helped me appreciate it even more. And, in twenty years, I’ll … [Read more...]
Is Your Church a Supportive Community?
Growing up, church was my home away from home. Many of my early memories are of me at church. When I was a little kid (2-7), I loved going to church. When I was an older child (8-11), I tried to get out of going to church (like a lot of kids), and when I was a teenager (12 and on) you couldn't drag me away from church. Believe me – many a night did my poor father sit out in the church parking lot waiting for me to get finished gabbing to my friends. My church was like a small town. Everybody knew everybody else – and everybody else's business. Though I didn't appreciate it enough at the time, … [Read more...]
