Some couples fall in love over candlelight at a fancy restaurant. Some see each other across a crowded room and the world stops spinning. Others think they hate each other passionately until they realize they are in love (Hallmark movies, anyone?). Eric and me? We fell in love guessing strangers’ personality types in our university cafeteria. Nerds? Well, maybe just a little. ~smile~ To this day, we love discussing all things personality with friends, family clients, church members, and pretty much anyone who wants to dialogue. Recently, we were at an event when Eric overheard the phrase … [Read more...]
If You Had No Fear, Who Would You Be?
Do you know who you are? Deep down in your core? When you wake up in the morning, do you know exactly what you are meant to do that day – or do you still grapple with the question, “What is my purpose?” You know, I thought I would have found myself by the time I turned thirty. Though I have made huge recent strides in self-exploration, there are still days when I’m unsure of myself. As a child, my career aspirations changed with each grade. As a five-year-old, I wanted to be a teacher. A little while later, I wanted to be a nurse. I wanted to be a writer in the third grade and in the fourth … [Read more...]
What if You Marry a Risk-taker?
Close your eyes and consider the following scenarios: 1. You hear the -tick, tick, tick- of the inclining roller coaster and you know that any second you are going to plummet down, down, down and then be whisked back up into seven consecutive loops. 2. You and several other people are on a raft. The water is getting choppy. You aren’t sure, but you think a waterfall may be ahead. 3. You’re in an airplane and you've reached the correct altitude. You and a few others are getting ready to jump. You walk to the door with your parachute on your back, feel the wind in your face, and then … [Read more...]
React to This!
It is a well-established fact that I get crazy-excited about discussing personality types and how they interact together. I was all set to leave church yesterday afternoon after visiting with some ladies when somebody brought up her Myers-Briggs Temperament Indicator (MBTI) score. So much for leaving! I plopped back down in a chair and was sad when one of the kids interrupted us and got us off the subject. I honestly think I could discuss it for hours without getting tired of it. I am fascinated with why people are the way they are... always have been! Personality Differences Personality … [Read more...]
Are you an airline Captain, Attendant, Passenger, or Engineer?
Eric and I fell in love over college cafeteria food and rousing psychological discussions – just your run of the mill, everyday fairytale romance. ~smile~ We loved to sit in the dining hall and try to ‘type’ our fellow students' personalities. She's sitting alone reading a book on philosophy. She is probably an introvert and she is likely intuitive. This may not sound like your cup of tea, but there is nothing more exciting to a couple of adorable psychology nerds such as us. ~smile~ Recently, when I was reading Confronting Without Offending by Deborah Smith Pegues, I discovered another … [Read more...]
