I often think that if fitness buffs spent just 10 percent of their weekly workout time – say, twenty minutes a day – working on their marriage instead of their bodies, they would get three times the health benefits they derive from exercise class or the treadmill. – Dr. John Gottman The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse predict an ailing marriage: Criticism, Defensiveness, Stonewalling, and Contempt. The worst of these is contempt. – Dr. John Gottman This last quote makes me think of a Scripture passage. “So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” (I … [Read more...]
Major Turn Offs in Relationships – Talking about Exes (Turn Offs, Part 2)
This year, as Hindsight is our theme, in some of our posts this year, we will be revisiting, updating, and republishing posts which have received a significant amount of shares and/or interactions. We previously published a post called Major Turn Offs in Relationships – Talking about Exes (Turn Offs, Part 2) (you are here ~smile~) and it became one of our most viewed posts to date. Sometimes, we talk about our exes with a reason in mind. I want to make him jealous. I want to see her response. And, sometimes we talk about an ex because he or she is on our mind. The Importance of Making Couple Friends
We have all heard the phrase ‘recurring conflict;’ but, before I got married, I did not understand the drain they put on your relationships. Eric and I were both so excited about getting married. Like any engaged couple, we looked forward to the future and wondered where we would be in five, ten, twenty, and fifty years. Joe and Megan went through our pre-engagement program in the Fall of 2016 and our pre-marital program in the Summer of 2017. They met at Washington State University, both studying in the agricultural department. … [Read more...]
Seven Reasons to Get Away from the One You Love
Shortly after each year’s Christmas and New Years’ festivities conclude, I start dreaming about the beach. Though I am not a hot weather person most of the time, I start itching to feel the sand between my toes and catch up with the girls (read: lifetime friends who are now women). For as long as I can remember, we long-time friends gather every summer at the Oceana Pier in Atlantic Beach for some salt-water therapy. We catch up on the goings on in our lives. Discuss any potential new relationships. Laugh until we cry, and occasionally dodge drunk guys with questionable tattoos. It is one … [Read more...]
