This is the time of year when I feel a mixture of the winter blues and an inner fire to make changes in my life. Christmas is over. We are back in Virginia. Eric is back at work and I am back to writing, planning, and my other normal tasks. When I allow it to, January can bring me down. It can seem endless, cold, unforgiving, and a constant reminder that I have to wait another year for Christmas to roll around again. But, it does not have to be a month of gloom! Sure, those gray days will peer into your soul and try to steal your joy, but you can beat them to the punch by proactively … [Read more...]
Welcome to the Year of Blessings!
Three... Two... One... Happy New Year!!! Can it really be time to start another year? It surely is, which means it is time for some New Year’s resolutions! Let me go ahead and get that portion of this post completed. This year I want to: Lose some weight. Be more punctual. Devote more time to prayer and Bible study. Organize my home. Choose to say yes! This … [Read more...]

However, I think cold weather gives us an excuse to do some incredibly heart-warming acts of kindness! We can reach out to others during this gloomy period of the year, and be little bits of sunshine for a lonely and despairing … [Read more...]
Experience Friday: Ringing the Salvation Army Bell
(written on December 21, 2015) In fifteen minutes, I am heading to our local Walmart to ring the Salvation Army (SA) bell. Since before I was knee-high to a grasshopper, Christmas has been accompanied by the loud, red bell and the jolly (and sometimes not so jolly) bell ringers! From children to senior citizens, the Salvation Army attracts people of all shapes, sizes, and ethnicities! Spending an hour of my life reminding busy shoppers of others’ needs is a small sacrifice, but hopefully one I will cherish! Confession is Good for the Soul Let me get a confession out of the way first. I … [Read more...]
