To kick off Thanksgiving week, I will let you know something I am truly thankful for: the godly people in my life that advised me soundly about relationships from the time I was young until today. Keep reading to see how they impacted me.... When I was a kid, it seemed like they just did not want me to have any fun. By the time I was twelve years old, I was interested in boys and the thought of waiting until I was an adult to be in a romantic relationship seemed impossible. Unfortunately, I squandered their advice at times, but they did not give up on me. Their prayers and guidance helped … [Read more...]
Talk About Getting Married (Our Story, Part II)
{If you came here in the middle of the story, you may want to start with Good Friends Make the Best Spouses (Our Story, Part I) first!} After Eric and I spent a year and a half getting to know each other, moving from being friends to being a couple was easy. Before Eric, I was afraid to date male friends because I was concerned that doing so would wreck our friendship. In some cases, that is true. Randomly dating a friend is a recipe for disaster in many cases. As a teenager, I occasionally dated guy friends because it seemed like the fun thing to do at the time (though, with more … [Read more...]
Life Lessons from Little House on the Prairie
Thanks to some special friends, I have borrowed the entire Little House on the Prairie television series and I watch them while I run on our elliptical trainer. I'm almost finished with season two and I'm thoroughly enjoying them, even if most of them do make me tear up! What I am drawn to most about this program is the simplicity of life depicted then as compared to now and how much the Ingalls family cherished each other. (Another blessing of this series is that it is wholesome and suitable for the whole family. We’ll probably end up getting our own set some day – you may want to get one … [Read more...]
Rate Your Mate (on a scale from 1 to 10…)
When I was nineteen, I had a sociology professor that reminded me of Phoebe from the television show, Friends. My professor may have seemed flaky, but she gave me an amazing tool to use that has helped our marriage tremendously.... Most of us have heard someone say, "On a scale from 1 to 10...," but I haven't met many people who use this rating scale in daily life. Let me tell you, it's awesome! You can save yourself from wondering what the other person is really thinking on many occasions using this system. For example, let's say you ask your boyfriend or girlfriend if a particular … [Read more...]
Find Yourself Laughing
This past Sunday afternoon, Eric and I went to see Tim Hawkins, a Christian comedian. We went last year and had such a good time that we couldn't pass up seeing him again this year. Last year, watching Eric laugh so hard brought me joy, especially knowing that it was doing his hard working soul such good. Eric is a focuser. When he has a goal in mind, little can keep him from completing it. Its completion date may get pushed back and the overall idea may change a few times, but in the end he will finish what he started. I am an experiencer and tend to get excited about new ideas for a … [Read more...]
