Just because we all need human connection does not mean that all connections are good. Personally, I have never met anyone who escaped childhood without being burned by at least one person. Sadly, we are all flawed and all have the capacity to hurt people – even those we love. And, those with whom we share a strong bond are capable of hurting us (perhaps more than others); but, when the bond is strong, the chances of reconciliation and restoration are high! ~smile~ The Good God has blessed me with a wonderful family. We are far from perfect, but at the end of the day we love each other – … [Read more...]
Why Is It Important to Connect with Each Other?
There is little in the world as powerful as human connection. We need other people. Those who claim not to need anyone have almost always been undeniably hurt in the past. After creating Adam, God saw that he needed someone else – someone like him – to have for help and for companionship (ref. Genesis 2:18). From the beginning of time, connection has been a basic human need. We need to connect with our parents or caregivers as children, we need to connect with friends as we grow, and we have an inward need to connect with one special person for a lifetime. An Invitation Deeply Connect with us in 2014!
Today, my god-brother (my god-mother’s son) turns twenty-one. Where did the time go? It seems like only yesterday that I was holding a brand new baby boy in my arms... and now he is grown! As an only child myself, it was a big thrill to gain a god-brother and what “tweenage” girl does not want a baby to carry around? When I first met him, I was jealous; because, for some strange reason, people seem more interested in playing with babies than ten-year-old girls. However, his cuteness got to me and, in no time, I was a big fan. Until he came along, I did not know how to hold a baby. And until … [Read more...]
He Makes All Things New!
The beginning of a year gives us a chance to start over. Like I said on Wednesday, we can get sluggish and out of sync during the holidays, and the start of a new year is like a fresh notebook with no wrinkled pages. Most years, I go into January with a deep breath and a lot of hope. It is almost as if a snow has fallen on my heart and cleansed it. I look into the new year and see a lot of possibilities! The phrase “He makes all things new” kept coming to my mind as I was thinking about what to write for the new year. Steven Curtis Chapman wrote a song a few years back with this title. … [Read more...]
It’s That Time Again! What Are Your Relationship Resolutions?
3... 2... 1... Happy New Year!!! Welcome 2014! How are you celebrating this New Year’s Day? Sleeping in because of a late night last night? Are you up and at ‘em early to get a head start on conquering the new year? Maybe today seems like every other day? What I love about the beginning of a new year is all the possibilities it holds. Thanksgiving and Christmas are so close together that I often emerge from the holiday season feeling sluggish and unaccomplished (though I love me some Christmas!), and the new year gives me the opportunity to look at life fresh and make plans for the next … [Read more...]
