It’s time for another experience! So many of the adventures I want to have revolve around water or being somewhere other than my hometown. So, I wasn’t sure what to do this time. I looked over a list I made earlier in the year and there it was: learn to play a song on the guitar! And what luck to live with someone who can teach me! This was going to be fun – and easy! Day One Ouch! My fingertips are not happy. Typing is not as easy as it was an hour ago! Eric, my musical man, agreed to help me learn to play a song on the guitar. Poor, naïve me. I thought we would pull out the guitars, I … [Read more...]
A Journal to My Future Husband
When I was a little girl, my mom bought me a red journal and told me to write a little something in it each day. Half the page was for writing and half the page was for a picture. I still have that red journal and enjoy pulling it out and reading the misspelled words and trying to make out the first grade artwork. My writing skills have improved, but my artwork still looks about the same. ~smile~ A few years later, I started a more grown-up journal about life’s most important topic – boys. For someone who was not boy crazy, I faked it well. It’s true that I did not like every boy that came … [Read more...]

Ten years. It doesn’t sound too long, right? What were you doing ten years ago? Well, I was putting the finishing touches on my wedding plans and anxiously awaiting my June wedding. I was a young bride (22 years old) and I had it figured out. I “knew” more about marriage than than I do now. ~smile~ We were going to love each other, work hard, and stay in love. ~smile ~ I wish I could sit here today and tell … [Read more...]
Keeping the Cross at the Center of Your Relationship
Do you ever struggle with forgiveness? Even though you know it’s a command from God and essential to a healthy relationship, does it still feel almost impossible to let go of the anger? Does letting go feel like an admission of defeat or like you’re opening yourself up to be hurt again? Forgiveness is essential; however, it is not something we give easily. It is a struggle. It works against our natural flesh, pride, and selfishness. We want those who have hurt us to pay. I’ve found that on my own, I am powerless to forgive. The only one who can grant me that grace to forgive is … [Read more...]
Fools Learn from Experience. Wise Men Learn from the Experience of Fools.
“Only a fool learns from his own mistakes. The wise man learns from the mistakes of others.” – Otto von Bismarck I was a teenager when I first heard this quote and I wish I had taken it to heart. There are so many mistakes out there to be made and none of them are new and unique. Each generation makes the same errors in judgment; they just play out slightly differently. My generation got into relationships too quickly and then had melodramatic break-ups that were the talk of the school or youth group. The next generation did the same thing, only they have very public Facebook wars. I cannot … [Read more...]
