What was your favorite Easter activity as a kid? I would guess millions of kids would declare, “Easter egg hunts!” There’s just nothing like them. Even now, the idea of running through a yard with a colorful basket searching for plastic, candy-filled treasures excites me!
So why do kids get to have all the fun? I think Easter egg hunts can be for adults too! In fact, why don’t you plan one this year for you and your sweetie – or for you, your sweetie, and your friends? You don’t have to have a run of the mill Easter egg hunt, so feel free to be as creative as you want to be! Below are a few ideas for you! ~smile~
Traditional Scavenger Easter Egg Hunt
There is absolutely no shame in a dozen twenty-somethings running around looking for eggs. Sure, it is traditionally a kid activity; yet, it’s moral, fun, and not bothering anyone. So, I see no harm in getting in touch with your inner-second grader!
If you have a yard big enough to have an Easter Egg Hunt bash, by all means, host one! If not, do you know of someone who would offer his or her property – or if your church would allow you to have one on the church grounds or in a church recreation room?
Treasure Easter Egg Hunt
The treasure Easter egg hunt is a bit more challenging, so it may appeal to your sweetie and friends slightly more than a traditional scavenger hunt. A treasure egg hunt involves hiding eggs in strategic locations (anywhere from all over the house to all over town!), and then giving clues to the seekers of where the next egg is hiding. The final clue will lead to the “Master” egg where there will be a “big” gift (gift card, money, silly putty… anything you wish).
If you do this for your just your sweetie, then it is pretty cut and dry. Hide eggs, write down clues, and have her (or him) seek them out. In that case, the gift in the master egg would be specifically geared towards your honey.
If you are doing a treasure hunt for a group of friends, you will need multiple lists of clues and eggs all leading to one master egg. It’ll take some planning, but it will be fun! ~smile~ You can even tell the finder of the master egg (individual or team) that they will find out the grand prize when they return with the coveted egg. Waiting for them upon their return could be big stuffed bunnies, movie tickets, or even a cash prize. Your imagination can surely come up with something wonderful – or, at least, hilarious!
Progressive Easter Egg Hunt
Though I have never been on a progressive Easter egg hunt, the idea in my head sounds fun. You have heard of a progressive dinner, right? Where you have one course at one house, then another course at another house, so on and so forth until you get to dessert? Well, this is a similar idea, but instead of eating all over town, you will be collecting eggs all over town.
First, you need several people involved who are willing to hide a certain number of filled eggs in their home or on their property. Whoever is hosting the hunt can choose what to put in their eggs, so the hunters will never know what they are going to get. They can be filled with candy, gag gifts, or something random, but fun.
At the end of the progressive hunt, the last house everyone comes to hosts dinner or heavy snacks. The host can also hide eggs if he or she would like. When everyone is done, they can settle in for an Easter celebration, open their eggs, have some laughs, eat some candy, and enjoy some awesome fellowship. If it would be easier for everyone to bring a little something to the dinner, that would be great too! This is a way for a group of friends, or even a Sunday School class, youth group, or college group to enjoy a day of celebration!
Personal Easter Egg Hunt
Do you remember the “love and respect” eggs from our last post on creating the ultimate Easter basket? They’re back! ~smile~ If you want to have an Easter egg hunt that is just between you and your sweetie, you can hide a dozen eggs for your sweetie to find filled with candy, small gifts, and notes of love or respect.
If you want it to be a surprise, that is completely fine. If you don’t care if it’s a surprise, you can chat with your sweetie and see if he or she wants to do a dual egg hunt. Make it a little challenging for each other and then have a special date planned following the hunt. Use this special holiday to let your sweetheart know how much he or she means to you.
Remember the Reason
As you celebrate with eggs, laughs, and beautiful weather, also remember to take time to thank Jesus for the sacrifice He made on Calvary so that we could be cleansed of our sin. He could have asked His Father to send angels to rescue Him from the angry crowd, the crown of thorns, and the cross, but He did not (Matthew 26:53-54). He is the only One in history who never committed a crime; yet, He paid the highest price for our sin.
