Do you ever just stop and think, “I want to love on my special someone today!”? These thoughts crossed my mind more when our love was new, but even now I have occasional bursts of “Let me do something special for my Eric just because I can.”
It is the middle of the week. Maybe you are tired? Maybe you and your significant other had a rough argument last night? Maybe everything is going well and you just want to take every opportunity you can to make your honey feel adored.
Below are a few quick and easy ideas for bringing a smile to your sweetheart’s face.
- Spend some time studying a topic about which your sweetheart is passionate – and have a conversation with him or her about it tonight! Eric is a veracious reader. Books are more than flaps of paper to him. He connects deeply with words, concepts, and ideas. One day, when I had the best of intentions, I asked him to find the top five books he wanted me to read. He was stunned and responded, “Are you serious? Don’t toy with me…” (to his credit on his response, I am not the reader he is). When I replied in the affirmative, he took off around the house. Upstairs, downstairs, office, bedroom – he scoured our many bookshelves. Shortly, he emerged with five solid choices. What is your sweetie passionate about and how can you become more educated about it?
- Surprise him or her with a special date geared completely around his or her favorite foods and hobbies. If your sweetie does not like surprises, plan the date for a future day when he or she can be prepared; but, talk about it tonight! ~smile~ Eric’s special date would begin with a fun breakfast, Thai food for lunch, and end with an ethnic meal he has never tried. In between, we would enjoy Rita’s Italian ice, discussing concrete goals for our marriage and business, and playing some games with friends. My perfect date would also begin with a fun breakfast, but it would probably end with delicious pizza and maybe cake. ~smile~ In between, we would swim (or something involving water), watch a fun movie, and hire someone to clean the entire house. ~smile~
- Relieve a Stressor. How can you help your sweetie complete an unpleasant task? Is there anything you can do to free up his or her schedule for some much needed rest? Can you vacuum? Pick up dry cleaning? Grocery shop? Take care of a pet for a few days? Find a need in your sweetie’s life and do not wait for him or her to ask for help. Offer assistance as soon as you see an opportunity. Show him or her you are a team player and that you are happy to inconvenience yourself in the name of love. ~smile~
KAPOW! There you go. Three quick and easy ways to brighten your sweetie’s day! Some other ideas include flowers, candy, a hug, a note under his or her windshield, an encouraging e-mail, a surprise gift, or just three or four hours of your complete and undivided attention. ~smile~
Leave yourself reminder notes that say, “Do something special for your honey today!” Pouring into your loved one’s heart on a regular basis is an investment in a sweet future.
When is the last time you did something above and beyond the call of duty for your special someone?
