One of the pieces of advice we share with our client couples is: make your wedding memorable. This is a day to honor and glorify God, but He is also glorified when we are having righteous fun. If your personality styles are more extroverted and playful, you may want to have fun and ham it up. If your personality styles are more traditional, you can have a more pristine, elegant wedding.
Many of your friends and family are going to have opinions about what you should and shouldn’t do on your wedding celebration. For a period of time, you should listen to them all and compile a list. At some point – or, likely at multiple points – take into consideration their input with your own ideas and come up with the wedding upon which you and your future spouse will most fondly remember.
If you have a wedding director, make sure he or she is committed to your having the wedding of your desires – especially if the person is a family member or close friend. If the director has ideas of his or her own and starts controlling some wedding decisions, it can permanently alter a future relationship with that person for a lifetime.
One of the things that Heather and I chose to do in our wedding was smash each other with the cut piece of wedding cake. So many people advised us against doing that – we didn’t care… we wanted to do it. And guess what? It was SO MUCH FUN! We are so glad we went through with it.
