At the risk of sounding insanely cliché, I am going to suggest to all who see this today to… take a leap!
This twenty-ninth day of February comes but once every four years, so why not use it as an excuse to take a step… jump… leap of faith?!
Is there something you have ALWAYS wanted to try, but you keep putting it off for “someday”?
Is there a fear that drives you batty and you want to conquer it, but doing so seems like a pipe dream?
Have you had a dream for years of your life but never taken steps to make that dream come true?
Could Today be the Day? The Day You Leap into Motion?
You may not be able to get that law degree today, but you can begin researching law schools and brainstorming how to make it happen.
You may not be able to conquer your fear of heights today, but can you take one small step in that direction?
Can you pick up the phone and call that girl you keep thinking about and ask her if she would like to get coffee?
Can you have a conversation with that man you like but have tried your best to ignore over the last six months?
If you ponder for five minutes, you can probably think of one or several areas in your life that could use a leap. I could probably list ten for myself!
Ready, Set, Leap
Okay, so running as fast as you can towards a cliff and jumping off with no preparation is ill-advised. However, if you work with an experienced team, have them tie a bungee cord to your ankles, and have medical help on hand, some could argue that bungee jumping is exhilarating and completely safe. Some people could indeed argue that. ~wink~
With that said, before you take a leap you should start with your ready and your set.
Ready is when you admit, “I am ready for this adventure! It is time! No matter the cost, I am ready to commit. Let’s do this!” Ready is when you can go before the Lord and surrender to His will. “I know you have put this task in front of me, Lord, and I know you will be faithful to see me through the journey.” Ready is when you are done making excuses and the pain of holding onto the fear becomes worse than the pain of letting go and saying, “come what may.”
Set is when you ground yourself, make a plan, and prepare to jump. Ready is when you decide you are going to do something. Set is when you take that proclamation and create a way for it to happen. Set is when you do the research and create a roadmap from here to your goal. Set is when you stop and clear your mind of the negativity which makes you question your decision. Set is when you look past every obstacle with razor sharp vision and rest your eyes on the finish line.
Leap is when you take your surrender, your prayers, your roadmap, your clear mind, and your razor sharp vision, and go for it with all your might. Leap is when you live out your faith instead of simply talking about it. Leap may seem more like crawl on the tough days, but you keep moving ahead. Leap means you are not satisfied letting life float past you anymore; and, even if it hurts (and it will at times), you are going to make your life count and chase the dreams God birthed in your heart.
How Far Will You Leap Today?
What is just over that hill? A new friendship? The search for a more fulfilling job in your field of choice? Holding that tarantula that haunts your dreams and finally realizing it is not going to kill you? On this extra day gifted to us this year, take a leap in the direction of your dreams.
