Sometimes, I just want a doughnut! Do you know the feeling? You wake up in the morning and you cannot think of anything but a doughnut, or a cupcake, or waffles with strawberries on top!
It is dangerous to give in to those desires all the time; but every once in a while, I think it is good to treat yourself. Even better, it is good to treat someone else just because you want to. ~smile~
There is no official holiday happening today, but I am declaring this unofficial Get Your Sweetie a Doughnut Day!
Keep Life Fun
I did not create this holiday simply because I want a doughnut (though I really, really do), but as a reminder to us all to keep life fun. There is no big sacrifice in running through a doughnut drive thru if you know it will bring a smile to your sweetheart’s face.
If your significant other is not into doughnuts, you should consider if he or she is the right one for you. (Just kidding! Mostly. lol) Although, I am not sure I could relate to someone who does not enjoy a warm, gooey, sweet pastry. ~smile~ Seriously though, if your sweetie is not into doughnuts, pick a special treat you know he or she likes and show up at his or her job or school and drop it off. Seeing you should put a light in your honey’s eye and the treat should put a spring in his or her step.
Keep Life Unpredictable – At Least a Little
Some predictability is nice, especially if you are the organized type! However, we have to guard against ruts. Ruts are dangerous for relationships and the longer we ignore them, the deeper they become! Whether it is a surprise doughnut, an unexpected just because gift, or a random day trip, occasionally shake life up a little. If your sweetie becomes stressed when his or her routine abruptly changes, you can soften your approach. “Do not make plans for Saturday. I am taking you somewhere special.” If you place the expectation early, he or she can mentally prepare for the fun to come! ~smile~
Keep Life in Balance
All work and no play makes Eric a dull boy. All play and no work makes Heather a lazy girl. We all have our natural leanings. Eric can work every day for weeks before it catches up with him. Me? After two days of hard work, I am ready for something fun even if it is just coffee with a friend. The good news is that Eric and I balance each other. The bad news is that Eric and I do not always want to be balanced. ~smile~ Still, I need to work hard and give my best and Eric needs to slow down and smell the roses. Small surprises and deviations from the norm help us keep that balance. They force him to slow down and they motivate me to keep going!
I hope you are on your way out the door to the doughnut shop, or the coffee shop, or the flower shop, or somewhere awesome for your sweetie. A pick-me-up is especially appreciated in the middle of a hard week.
Here’s to more fun, more spontaneity, more balance, and a closer connection with our sweethearts! Happy Get Your Sweetie a Doughnut Day!!!
