Summer is coming! For some, summer means fun, fun, fun! For others, summer means staying inside and soaking up the air conditioning. However you feel about summertime, it comes and goes all too quickly; so, make a list of what you and your sweetheart want to enjoy this summer before cool weather sets in and you are daydreaming about a stroll on the beach!
Here are a few ideas to consider:
- Hot Air Ballooning
- Parasailing
- Jet Skiing
- Sailing
- Horseback Riding
- Ziplining
- Bungee Jumping
- Sky Diving (Outdoor – or Indoor!)
- Segway Tour (These actually exist! ~smile~)
- Food Tour (For those who love the warmth of summer interrupted by several small, enjoyable meals served in temperate environments.)
- Classic Relaxing Beach Day
- Some Home or Self Improvement Project
- Compete in a Tournament Together
- Drive to a New Town and Visit All the Touristy Traps
- Go Rollerblading
- Have S’more’s Around a Campfire
- Go to a Drive-in Movie or a Movie in the Park
- Bonus: Conquer at Least One Irrational Fear (Without Endangering Yourself or Others)!
It took me no time at all to think of these eighteen ideas. What do you and your sweetie like doing together? Start there. Pick at least three activities you know you both like and map out a plan to experience them before it gets cold.
Then, think of a few hobbies you do not share and see how you can spend time in each one.
“You like baseball, fishing, and tractor pulls. I like volley ball, 5k color runs, and swimming. We can go to a few minor league games this season to relax after our 5k training. We can spend a few Saturday mornings fishing and then enjoy a cool swim afterwards. I may even join you for a tractor pull if you will come cheer me on at my volleyball games!”
We may not share all of the same hobbies with our significant others; however, we can still participate in them at some level. It is a small gesture to show them we care about what they love and that we want to spend time with them.
Last, but not least, pick a few activities neither of you have experienced and dive in together! You may uncover a new hobby you can enjoy together for years! If it seems like you have nothing in common, take this step and see if you can discover one! Always be honest, though. ~smile~ Do not pretend to enjoy something just to make your sweetie happy. You can go along for support, but you should paint a clear picture about who you are and what you like. It is only fair that you both portray the truth about what you are bringing to the table – that is, what you will be like after marriage. If you pretend to like snorkeling now, do not blame your sweetie for being frustrated if you later “decide” you hate it after marriage.
Summer’s on its way! Live it up! Enjoy established hobbies, tag along on some of your sweetie’s exploits, and discover a few new hobbies together!
What is on your summertime bucket list?
