Technology is not the enemy. Lack of balance is the enemy. It is easy to jump on the “all new stuff is bad” bandwagon, but it is simply not so. We need to keep growing and changing. Without technology, we would not have the wheel and all the great, life-changing inventions that came after it! ~smile~ Though an addiction to twenty-first century technology has stressed many couples’ communication lines, I believe technology can also be used to enhance a couple’s time together. Here are a few ways “the new stuff” can bring a couple together instead of driving a wedge between them. New … [Read more...]
Can Technology Kill Connection? (Technological Love, Part 1)
“I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots.” – Albert Einstein, perhaps ~smile~ Some say Einstein said this, but I am not sure proof exists. At any rate, it seems to fit! Technology is such a blessing in my life! Whether it is brand new technology or old school technology, I cannot deny that it makes my life easier – for the most part. Putting my dirty dishes into a dishwasher and pressing “wash” is so nice! Throwing my clothes into a box and pressing “start” beats finding a clean creek or river in which to dunk … [Read more...]
Is Technology Slowly Ruining Your Relationship?
Most of us already know this, but it bears repeating: we can accomplish so much more when we turn off the TV! Confession time: I love watching television and movies. {Eric’s note: The previous sentence is an understatement! ~smile~) If I’m left to my own devices I will find myself in the middle of an Andy Griffith marathon. My attention span does not allow me to simply sit and watch for hours on end, so I usually pair my favorite shows with perusing Facebook, checking e-mails, attempting to write, or looking up gift ideas for people online. Notice I said attempting to write. When I try to … [Read more...]
Life Lessons from Little House on the Prairie
Thanks to some special friends, I have borrowed the entire Little House on the Prairie television series and I watch them while I run on our elliptical trainer. I'm almost finished with season two and I'm thoroughly enjoying them, even if most of them do make me tear up! What I am drawn to most about this program is the simplicity of life depicted then as compared to now and how much the Ingalls family cherished each other. (Another blessing of this series is that it is wholesome and suitable for the whole family. We’ll probably end up getting our own set some day – you may want to get one … [Read more...]
Smart Phone Love (Distracting Technology)
A few weeks ago, I bought my first smart phone with an unlimited plan, so I can finally text for the first time ever (without it costing me for each text, anyway – my last cell phone was five years old!). Before getting the phone, I thought I would call on it, text on it, and occasionally download on app. Well, let's just say the first night I had it, I spent hours exploring different apps and downloaded a ton of interesting things. Eric and I texted each other from the next room (just because we could) and, at one point, we were sitting in the same room… not talking… and each looking down at … [Read more...]
