Three cheers for me! I finished the entire Star Wars series, and if that doesn’t impress you – well, it should! ~smile~ For some reason, I have avoided watching the Star Wars series in its entirety for many years citing that I am just not a science fiction person. And though I’m still not a science fiction person (I will probably never learn Klingon or send my kids to space camp), I am proud to have experienced one of the highest grossing and most beloved series of all time. Most of all, I am glad to finally know what people are talking about when they quote Yoda. ~smile~ The final movie, … [Read more...]
You Don’t Have to Repeat the Sins of Your Parents (Star Wars, Part 5)
Yoda’s back! I missed him in Episode IV! I guess if you’ve only watched A New Hope (Episode IV), you wouldn’t know to miss him. But once you’ve enjoyed Yoda’s wisdom, how can you go back? ~smile~ Anyway, the Death Star was destroyed at the end of Episode IV and Darth Vader is obsessed with finding Luke. Think about the man you respect less than anyone else on Earth. Now imagine that you’ve just found out he’s your father! Luke seemed less freaked out to discover that Leia was his sister (but that doesn’t come until the last episode) than to find out Darth Vader was his father. Then again, … [Read more...]
Don’t Date Your Sister and Other Advice (Star Wars, Part 4)
I enjoyed Episode IV so much more after seeing the back story! And it’s always fun watching the beginning of a romance. I’m not talking about the Luke and Leia side of the love triangle, but rather Princess Leia and Han Solo’s relationship. (Though, when Luke first saw Leia on the hologram, he commented on her beauty. He didn’t know yet that she was his sister, but for me watching, it was weird just the same. ~smile~) In the beginning of A New Hope, Princess Leia and Han Solo’s relationship was characterized in Episode IV by sarcastic remarks, eye rolls, and constant jabs. However, there … [Read more...]
Learn to Avoid the Seduction of the Dark Side (Star Wars, Part 3)
In Revenge of the Sith (Episode III), Anakin’s arrogance reaches an all time high. He is spending less time learning from Obi-Wan and more time relying on his own understanding. This seems to parallel our choosing to lean on our own understanding instead of trusting the Lord. Chancellor Palpatine’s character made me uneasy in the first Star Wars movie. When Anakin was fighting Count Dooku to free Chancellor Palpatine, the chancellor told Anakin to kill Count Dooku after he had lost his weapon. Anakin didn’t want to kill Count Dooku since he was unarmed (as it wasn’t the Jedi way), but he … [Read more...]
Are You Asking for Trouble? (Star Wars, Part 2)
Have you ever had a crush that you could not shake – someone who found his or her way into your mind and heart for years on end? We find out that since Anakin Skywalker was about eight years old he thought about Padmé (Queen Amidala) everyday for the next ten years. Wow! I’ve had my share of crushes but none of them have lasted for ten years! (Unless you count my childhood crush on Michael J. Fox ~smile~) At the beginning of Attack of the Clones (Episode II), we find out that the galaxy is moving toward civil war. At the end of Episode I, Senator Palpatine is elected as Chancellor, but he … [Read more...]
