On the Third day of Christmas… Recently, I was out to lunch with a friend and she told me that she and her husband don’t exchange gifts anymore. They experience something new together for holidays. Whether your sweetheart loves opening actual gifts or not, adding new experiences to your holiday plans can be a great way to build memories. Think about something your sweetheart wants to do (e.g., horseback riding, skiing, a concert, etc.) and make a way for it to happen. You can either surprise him or her with the experience on the day it’s happening (if he or she is into surprises), or you … [Read more...]
One Full Day of Rest and Two Home Cooked Meals (My True Love Gave to Me, Days 1 and 2)
Over the next couple weeks, we’ll be celebrating twelve days of Christmas. For these posts, I will give you ideas of what you can get your beloved this year! I think we’re all looking for ideas for those who are hard to shop for! On the First day of Christmas… Speaking of hard to shop for… the older Eric gets, the less he wants stuff. Each passing Christmas or birthday he has an increasingly harder time thinking of purchasable items he wants than the year before. Several times he has told me he just wants more time to get things done. He is a hard worker and it seems like he never has … [Read more...]
Major Turn Offs in Relationships – Entitlement (Turn Offs, Part 6)
In graduate school, I recall one of my professors talking about a student who turned in a paper worthy of receiving a “D” grade. Deciding to give the student grace, he gave the student a “B.” What do you think happened? The student found the professor and disrespectfully complained about his grade. I’m not sure if he demanded a grade change or not, but at any rate, he caused a scene over his low “B” grade. First of all, I was floored at the thought of bombarding a professor in such a way as this student did, but I was equally amazed that he could write such a poor paper and still have … [Read more...]
Major Turn Offs in Relationships – Bad Hygiene (Turn Offs, Part 5)
Maybe bad hygiene is a bigger turn off for women than men, but I can’t imagine too many men standing in line to talk to a woman in sweat pants who hasn’t bathed in days (unless she’s a celebrity). Women may be more vocal about the issue of hygiene, but both men and women appreciate those who bath and groom regularly. When I left for college, I had no idea how blessed I’d be in the roommate department. I was roommates with a friend from my hometown area – and though we had our normal share of roommate squabbles, I am pleased to announce to the world that she bathed... daily! This may not … [Read more...]
Major Turn Offs in Relationships – Ignorance (Turn Offs, Part 4)
Today is a beautifully dreary day. It’s an ideal day for blogging and napping. So far, today’s excitement has consisted of Ramsey (our golden retriever) taking off and running very near to the street as a car was bounding in her direction. Thankfully, she yielded to my scream for her return and came bouncing back up to the front door – blissfully (and ignorantly) unaware that she had been in any danger at all. Ignorance can be a turnoff. When you think of ignorance do you think of someone who is uneducated or someone who doesn’t want to be educated? Merriam-Webster’s online dictionary … [Read more...]
