When Eric and I first started dating, spending time together was not a challenge. It was as easy as breathing. We did not think in terms of, “Will we see each other today?” We thought, “When will we see each other today?” We knew we would be getting married someday, so spending as much time as possible together seemed like the most natural use of our time. Or was it? A New Love Pitfall When love is new, you often feel like you are walking on air. You cannot believe how good you feel. Bad days at work are quickly forgotten when you see your beloved in the distance. Headaches, car trouble, … [Read more...]
Take Me Out to the Ballgame… (or, for the Love of Pete, Let Me Go Home!)
Dear Diary: I'm a little angry right now. Okay, a little angry happened about two hours ago. Now I'm just plain perturbed. If you could see my face right now you would run away screaming. Have you ever been frustrated enough to break something in half... like steel poles? It all started with a fun filled night. “Hey Honey, I have free tickets to the Hillcats game (our town’s minor league baseball team)... skybox seats!” Ok, going to a baseball game hadn’t even flashed through my mind as a possibility. I was expecting a low-key dinner and maybe watching a TV show together... but, we can do … [Read more...]
When’s the Last Time You Tried Something New?
Since turning 30 years old, I've found this sudden need to seek out new experiences. I’m not sure if it will pass, but suddenly I have a laundry list of activities I want to attempt – when, at one time, hanging out with friends and watching movies was enough to previously satisfy me. Sitting in the salon the other day, I told my stylist that I had this sudden urge to “change my hair style and jump off of things” (e.g., buildings, mountains, etc.). Her prognosis was that I am going through a mid-life crisis. Hmm... I’m not ready to say that I’m officially middle-aged, but I can’t deny this … [Read more...]
A Milestone Birthday Diary
The house is quiet. My kitchen table is covered with birthday gifts – all laid out so I can admire them for a few days before putting them away. This has been quite a day. This morning, I went to a baby shower for one of the precious ladies at our church. Celebrating new life is a reminder of how amazing our God is to us. When he blesses a family with a new baby, he also blesses those around that child. What a joy babies bring into the world. No room is the same after a baby enters. As the day continued, I picked up my sister-in-law and we spent the day together. Spending time with … [Read more...]
6 Reasons Why Shopping Together isn’t the Best Idea
Who doesn't love to shop? If you’re a lady, chances are your man doesn't love to shop. If you are a man, there is a possibility your lady doesn't enjoy the hustle and bustle of the mall either (surprised?). Some in the counseling field would suggest shopping together as a way to bond and spend quality time; however, I must disagree. Eric and I have found that shopping together is typically (though, not for all couples) not a great way to enjoy each other's company. Here are a handful reasons why: The majority of men (certainly not all) do not enjoy the process of shopping. The … [Read more...]
