(Note: this post is written from an American perspective; however, if you live in a different country, patriotism and its importance to you should still be discussed between you two!) Today, in America, you cannot travel too far from your home without stumbling upon a fireworks stand. We love to watch the sky light up on the Fourth of July as we commemorate our independence. Some say that this country has changed so much that they do not find the same satisfaction in flying Old Glory and celebrating the signing of the Declaration of Independence as they did in the “good ol’ days.” Others … [Read more...]
Less-than-Fairytale Presidential Marriages (Presidential Love Connections, Part 3)
Love is not always a fairy tale. Sometimes it begins as such and then time and other priorities throw water on the flame. Love is depicted as flowers and romance most of the time, but many know love to be the hardest battle in their lives – and that is not always bad. Sometimes challenging marriages produce amazing people. For example, consider Abraham Lincoln. Strong Presidential Partnerships (Presidential Love Connections, Part 2)
No matter how big you get, you still need love. No matter how strong you get, you still need love. No matter how powerful or arrogant you get, you still need love. No matter how much you believe you don’t need love, you still need love. My cousin sang it for the church when he was a little boy, which was funny since it was hard to picture him with children and a wife. ~smile~ I remember standing with others in a chapel, listening to Greenwood's song while holding a candle and remembering those who lost their lives in the twin towers. Many songs have been written about our great land, but God Bless the USA is by far my favorite. I can't imagine any other modern day patriotic song taking its … [Read more...]
Get Out and Vote! (The Government Can by Tim Hawkins)
As I was pondering what to put for today's post, I thought it would be a great time to remind people to get out and vote! Many ancestors died and bled to secure the right and privilege for us to vote today - we should not cast it aside in vain. The two topics often considered taboo are religion and politics. Since we regularly bring up religion (in the form of Christianity) here, let's talk about politics. It is very important for you to discuss what you believe politically - whether or not you would be active in demonstrating - with your future spouse. Not so much the particular people, … [Read more...]
