“Even a fool who keeps silent is considered wise; when he closes his lips, he is deemed intelligent” (Proverbs 17:28, ESV). Think back on a time something completely inappropriate flew out of your mouth. In that moment, did you want to melt into the floor or find the nearest time machine?! We have all made statements we wish we could retract, and once you are married your, “Shoot, why did I say that?!” list will probably grow longer. We are all guilty of slipping up once in a while, but the more we tame our tongues, the more blessed our relationships are in the long run. Sometimes, I … [Read more...]
Five Perspectives of Mine Which Have Changed Since I Became a Wife
When I was growing up, it never made sense to me why brides-to-be got so nervous waiting for their ceremonies to start. When I was eleven, I sat in the bridal room watching my cousin’s soon-to-be wife get ready to walk down the aisle. She was practically giddy with a mixture of excitement and nerves. “Heather, I’m marrying your cousin!” As a middle-schooler who had recently discovered the value of the male species, I could understand her excitement; but, why the nerves? If you could have seen what was going through my mind, you might have been horrified. … [Read more...]
Connecting the Experience and Blessing of Transformational Perspective
A few years back, Eric and I were working with a business coach and he recommended that we have a theme on which to focus each year. So, in 2014, we decreed it the Year of Connection. We wrote posts about connecting deeply with each other, friends, and family. In 2015, it was the Year of Experiences. That year, I committed to having (and writing about) two experiences each month which took me outside of my comfort zone. Those experiences helped me grow a lot. In 2016, our focus was on Blessings. We wrote about blessing your sweetheart and blessing others. We also blessed our readers … [Read more...]
