In celebration of our fiftieth post, our topic today is those who have been married for fifty years. I have been fascinated by couples who have been married at least fifty years. What a commitment to love and cherish the same person through so many stages of life! The joyful times are easy; however, in fifty years of marriage, most couples have been through the births of children and grandchildren along with the deaths of parents and other loved ones. Marriages that Last a Lifetime
On January 23rd, 1946, my grandparents were married. It was after World War II ended and Granddaddy had just returned home. My Granny's uncle met my Granddaddy overseas and showed him a picture of my Granny. She was fourteen at the time. He was interested in her at first sight. He began writing her letters every day and sometimes they were even twelve pages long. When Granny was fifteen, Granddaddy had ten days military leave and he came to Highpoint, NC to meet her.
