Love is not always a fairy tale. Sometimes it begins as such and then time and other priorities throw water on the flame. Love is depicted as flowers and romance most of the time, but many know love to be the hardest battle in their lives – and that is not always bad. Sometimes challenging marriages produce amazing people. For example, consider Abraham Lincoln. Abe and Mary Lincoln I am honestly not sure what was harder for Abraham Lincoln: the pain and anguish of the ongoing Civil War or his extremely difficult marriage to Mary Todd Lincoln. From what I have come to understand, she fit the … [Read more...]
Strong Presidential Partnerships (Presidential Love Connections, Part 2)
No matter how big you get, you still need love. No matter how strong you get, you still need love. No matter how powerful or arrogant you get, you still need love. No matter how much you believe you don’t need love, you still need love. In the glory days, when the world respects you, your friends revere you, and everyone wants a picture of you or the touch of your hand, love may seem insignificant. But let that respect fall away. God’s Amazing Orchestration of Love
My in-laws came by for a while last Saturday and spending time with them got me to thinking about how their relationship came together. Having lost their spouses to cancer several years prior, my husband's father and step-mother met and married the same year Eric and I were married. It was an exciting year for our family! I remarked to her that it would be nice if he met a … [Read more...]

My Granddaddy met my Granny's brother during World War II and after seeing a picture of my Granny, he was eager to get to know her better. By the end of his time overseas, he was writing her twelve page letters every day. Sadly, when they married and she moved from Highpoint to New Bern, she had to pack everything into a small space (they were travelling by bus), and she could not bring the letters with her. She burned them in her fireplace, so they must have been juicy … [Read more...]
Letters to My Future Spouse
In a recent previous week, my husband blessed me in an amazing way. When I came home from a week in North Carolina, my basement was clean! To some of you, this may not seem like a big deal, but you had to know what it looked like before he cleaned it to fully appreciate all of his hard work. We had broken down boxes, an old mattress, computer parts, etc. everywhere. In many parts of the country, the basement or attic serve the same purpose: if you don't know where to put something, toss it in the basement (or attic) and worry about it later. Well, we had been "worrying about it later" for … [Read more...]
