I know the calendar says Winter starts December 21st, but once it is cold outside and Christmas lights go up all over town, it becomes wintertime for me. When Eric and I first started dating, we attended the wedding of some mutual coworkers who played the song Every Season by Nicole Nordeman and we loved it. So much, in fact, that we not only had my cousin sing it at our wedding, but we based our wedding’s entire theme around the four seasons. The song begins in Summer. Kids are playing and the days are long and warm. Then, we move into Autumn where the leaves are falling, and the air is … [Read more...]
Are You Dating Your Christmas Morning Person?
In just a few hours, Eric and I will make our way across town to attend our friends’ ugly Christmas sweater party. After much searching (and finding nothing), I will be decorating a long sleeve t-shirt from Goodwill for my Christmas “sweater,” and I am still trying to talk Eric into decorating his beard with ornaments (I think I am fighting a losing battle on that one). All this Christmas fanfare, family gatherings, trees decorated everywhere, and excited children have made me think about all the Christmases Eric and I have spent together. Counting our engagement, this is our eighteenth … [Read more...]

Twenty Questions to Ask Before Getting Engaged
“I want a man with brown hair and brown eyes. I want him to be a few years older than me. I want him to like Indianapolis Colts football, UNC basketball, and Atlanta Braves baseball. He needs to love my family and be a good dad.” My childhood list of “must haves” in a spouse were a bit on the superficial side! If only it was so easy to choose a mate based on eye color and professional sport preferences. Like everyone, I grew up and realized there is so much more to picking a lifetime mate than age and hobbies. There are cultural differences. Two Americans from different sides of the country … [Read more...]

The last few months were amazing! You have enjoyed some incredible dates, shared some laughs, endured your share of awkward moments, and are coming up on a pretty important crossroads. Dating has been fun, but what are we? Couples who hang out regularly for several months usually come to the DTR (define the relationship) conversation with a mixture of excitement and nerves. Are we just friends? Do we want to be more than friends? Are you ready for a commitment? Do you still want to date other people? Are we having the same thoughts about this? Is it time to take it up a … [Read more...]
