Part of the beauty of counting our blessings is that we realize we have an abundance in our lives that we can also give to others. When we wallow in self-pity we feel like our lives are hopeless and that we don’t have anything to give. But when we take the time to count the blessings in our lives, we become aware of the surplus of our fortunes, and when we are aware of our good fortune, we can share it with others who need it. So how can you share your blessings with others in a practical way? When Eric and I got married, I came to find out that he had been supporting a Compassion Child for … [Read more...]
People for Which I’m Thankful
As I approach my first Thanksgiving without Granny, I’m reminded of so many blessings I am thankful for in my life. Sometimes losing a loved one makes you more aware of all the good in your life. Have you ever experienced a heightened level of thankfulness after losing a loved one? The first blessing I am thankful for this year is Jesus Christ and the hope I have because of His death, burial, and resurrection. I owed a debt I couldn’t pay no matter how hard I worked, and Jesus submitted himself to be beaten, tortured, and crucified to pay my sin debt (and yours). Even though we hear it … [Read more...]
Pumpkin Carving!
In my previous post, Playing Follow the Leader in a Corn Maze, I told you that Eric and I, along with my brother-in-law and sister-in-law, went to a pumpkin patch to pick our perfect pumpkins. Unless I was simply too young to remember it, I don’t think I’d ever been to a pumpkin patch before last Saturday. First, we took a hayride up and around a hill to a sea of pumpkins. Picking your own pumpkin is a lot of fun, but if you have issues with indecisiveness, picking the perfect pumpkin in the great pumpkin sea could take some time, so be prepared. ~smile~ Decisiveness is not my gift, but for … [Read more...]
What are Your Easter Traditions?
When I was growing up, we did not have many Easter traditions. Mom and I would shop a few weeks in advance for Easter dresses, I would wake up to an Easter basket on Easter morning, and we would go to church. However, after attending church, the day didn't seem much different than any other Sunday. Then I met Eric, got married, and realized that some families have long-lasting Easter traditions. Easter, or “Resurrection Sunday” as many prefer to call it, should be one of the biggest days of celebration in the life of a believer. We make a big deal out of Christmas, as we should; but, Easter … [Read more...]
Celebrate Your Life!
Life is short. We have a limited amount of time on this planet and we spend too much of it stressed out, worrying, planning ahead, and finding the negative in our daily lives. So I'm encouraging you all to celebrate! Celebrate... what? Celebrate unique events and circumstances that you would not normally commemorate. When Eric and I first got married, we celebrated the 11th of each month because we started dating on June 11th and were married on June 11th. We honored the 11th day of each month by eating Thai food. But that is just one example of something to celebrate. Rejoice in the … [Read more...]
