At this point in your relationship, does it seem like you need to pour out extra affection? Are you and your lovely companion filled to the brim with emotional fuel? Can you go more than a few hours without speaking? Do you struggle to understand how any couple could lose this magic? If so, I can relate to your season of life. There was a time when I honestly did not understand why people divorced. Maybe I thought I understood, but I did not get it. What I was experiencing with Eric was so real and powerful I did not expect it ever to fade. We were that couple – the twosome who had to … [Read more...]
Blessings from Us to You (July) – Free Family Life Marriage Bible
What is truly amazing about being a Christian life coach married to another Christian life coach is that we have the perfect prayer life. We rise before the sun each day and read a book of the Bible and then kneel by our bedside and pray for at least 45 minutes before Eric leaves for work. Last year, we read through the Bible four times, but this year we hope to make it five. It is a wonderful feeling to have it all together. And if you buy that... I have some magic beans for purchase which may interest you! It is not fun to admit our failures (especially in our line of work), but Eric … [Read more...]
Why I Waste My Time Watching Old TV Shows
A former co-worker of mine used to refer to me as an old soul – and I suspect she was mostly correct. I often feel like I was born twenty years after my time. Perhaps, it is because I listened to oldies with my mom and watched old TV shows with my dad. Whatever the reason, I feel like a kid from the 60s who was somehow transported to grow up in the 80s. Your middle school buddies do not find you cool when you admit to enjoying television from your parents’ generation. Who cares about those outdated programs? Especially when there are so many new shows to watch? Despite the disapproval of my … [Read more...]
The Misuse of Submission and the Marriage-Suffocating Phrase
If you could have coffee with your younger self, what would you tell him or her? I would probably plop down in front of twenty-two-year-old, in love, naïve Heather and say, “Listen up! You think you are going to be a wonderful wife. You assume submitting to this man is going to be a walk in the park. You think you have it all figured out. Because you are studying relationships in graduate school, you think you are a step ahead of other engaged couples. You have no idea what you are doing. Allow me to enlighten you!” My younger self might find me to be a bit pushy... and I would not care. … [Read more...]
How Can I Use My Wedding to Bless Others? (Wedding Planning, Part 3)
If we have established only one truth this week, it is this: weddings are stressful! When we get caught up in all the chaos, it is easy to hyper-focus on ourselves and our day. Doing so is not necessarily malicious; it just comes with the titles of bride and groom. One way to refocus your minds and take a momentary step out of the spotlight is to think of ways to bless others through your overall wedding experience. Thinking of others above ourselves helps shift our perspective and lightens our hearts! Have you considered including any of these in your wedding? Present the Gospel. … [Read more...]
