Sometimes I struggle to be happily married – this is no secret to Eric. (He understands because he sometimes struggles too.) Some days it is terrifying to think, “This is for a lifetime,” especially when life gets busy and we find little time to connect. If I am not careful, those fears and negative thoughts can take over my mind and leave me questioning everything. Self-inflicted despair. Looking at the whole fifty years at once makes any marriage seem overwhelming, which is why I am learning to take my marriage a day at a time. God knows what tomorrow has in store for me. Today is all I … [Read more...]
I Want a Doughnut!
Sometimes, I just want a doughnut! Do you know the feeling? You wake up in the morning and you cannot think of anything but a doughnut, or a cupcake, or waffles with strawberries on top! It is dangerous to give in to those desires all the time; but every once in a while, I think it is good to treat yourself. Even better, it is good to treat someone else just because you want to. ~smile~ There is no official holiday happening today, but I am declaring this unofficial Get Your Sweetie a Doughnut Day! I know what makes my life better, but must actually do something about it before I see results. ~smile~ When I feel down and discouraged, it is seldom because I … [Read more...]
Experience Friday: Horseback Riding
Slowly, but surely, our Year of Experiences is drawing to a close. It is hard to believe we are a mere month and a half away from a brand new year. This time last year, I had experienced little and was full of fear. Now, I am still far from fearless, but I have made considerable experiential strides. Before, my initial reaction to something new, even if it was something fun, was to quickly decline the opportunity. These days, … [Read more...]

There he is. He walks into the room and heads turn. He smiles. His chin is up. He looks his lunch companion in the eye and shakes his hand. He is working that suit and you do not know what he is selling, but you are ready to buy. Look at her. She knows she is a catch. When you look her in the eye, she does not look away. She is gracious, but not fawning. She could take you or leave you. ~smile~ She has a life and it shows. She will not slow down unless she has a good reason. Something about her complete lack of desperation makes her seem completely irresistible. Confidence is Incredibly … [Read more...]
