What is the difference between a wonderful and frightful Valentine’s Day? Expectations. So, expectations might not be the single factor involved in creating the best or worst celebration, but it certainly plays a large role. What we expect of our boyfriend, girlfriend, fiancée, or spouse evaluates if he or she “got it right” or “got it wrong.” He brought me roses to work and took me out to lunch. Just like I wanted. What a good man I have. He sent me an I love you text with a hundred hearts but no card? What kind of lazy, unromantic man does not get his girlfriend a Valentine’s Day … [Read more...]
Being Intentional in Your Long-Distance Relationship
A few years back, I laughed until I cried while listening to a comedian talk about the difference between couples without children leaving the house and couples with children leaving the house. Here's how it went... Couples without children: “Let’s leave the house. Ok!” (Couple walks briskly out the door.) Couples with children: “Let’s leave the house.” (20 minutes of chaos ensues… herding children, packing bags, yelling, crying, and parents losing their minds.) Of course, couples with children must be a lot more intentional about going anywhere – even in running errands. When I meet … [Read more...]
Being Intentional with Life’s Short Pauses

If you are like me, you find yourself staring blankly into the distance during those times or scrolling through social media. It is just a minute or two. No worries. Could those minute breaks add up to something much larger? In the spirit of being intentional, I am … [Read more...]
Be Intentional (and Decide What You Really Want)
Happy New Year, everyone! Like many of us, I am a little weary from the past two years and I would love some normality, but I am not going to sit around and just hope for that. Instead, this year Eric and I have decided that our family and business theme this year is to be: intentional. Intentional about preparation. Intentional about taking care of ourselves. Intentional about business. Intentional about education. Instead of letting this year happen to us, we are going to be intentional about our goals and our plans to achieve them. Can we guarantee no surprises this year by being … [Read more...]
Freedom from the Fear of the Future
This topic has been weighing heavily on my mind recently – perhaps it has been preying on your mind as well. Our world is going through a lot of changes. Some see these changes as steps in the right direction; but, many are looking at the path we appear to be taking with fear and trepidation. With each passing year in America, God’s standards are further shunned and ignored. Even those who claim to know Him and preach His word are being deceived in these times; and, in turn, they deceive others (cf. 2 Timothy 4:3-5). We see evil triumphing all around us and it makes us wonder… Is God … [Read more...]
