Valentine’s Day is coming! It’s practically here! Are you counting down the days or are you just hoping to remember once the day is upon you? When Eric and I were newly in love, I’m sure I had Valentine’s Day on my mental radar a bit more than I do now; but, I doubt celebrating it will ever get old. Whether I am thirty-five, fifty-four, or eighty-seven, it will always feel good to be a Valentine. ~smile~ Like other annual celebrations in relationships, we can fall into a rut with how we carry out our Valentine’s Day celebrations. “Dinner and a movie again?”“What? We always do dinner and … [Read more...]
It’s Send a Card to a Friend Day! (Connecting through Words)
We don’t utilize the US Postal Service like we used to. After my fifth grade boyfriend moved away, I spent many an afternoon eagerly opening my mailbox. Will there be a letter in there for me? Does he still love me? Are we still getting married someday and honeymooning in Hawaii? (Yes, I was serious!) At first, I got a letter every few weeks, and then months, and then, sadly, I had to admit it was over. I had given that eleven-year-old boy some of the best months of my life. ~sigh...~ But, while it lasted, I got an incredible high from those letters. In fact, I think I still have them! Connecting through Repeatedly Studying Your Sweetie
Who among us has had the pleasure of watching the movie, Groundhog Day, with Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell ten or more times? I have! I cannot count the number of times I watched our blurry, VHS copy. My Dad may be scarred for life. When I find a movie I like, I can watch it for weeks on end without getting tired of it. Eric has even threatened to hide the Back to the Future DVD trilogy he gave me before we got married. If he had only known. ~smile~ “That’s right woodchuck chuckers, it’s Groundhog Day!” Those of us who have loved the movie Groundhog Day (or who have at least watched it … [Read more...]
Seven Steps to Being Honest with Yourself (Connecting Through Honesty, Part 3)
“Mom, I do not understand why I am struggling with this submission thing. I always thought of myself as a submissive person.” “Really? I’ve never thought of you as a submissive person.” Leave it to Mom to give it to me straight. ~smile~ Sometimes, we are blind when it comes to our own strengths and weaknesses. We may not realize how our attitudes and actions come across to the world. We may think we are sweet and kind while the world sees us as insecure and insincere. Or, we may think of ourselves as awkward and uninteresting while the world sees us as funny and engaging. There will … [Read more...]
