Do you enjoy hearing a good love story? Couples get together under so many different circumstances, so I find it interesting to hear how couples met, how they connected, and how he proposed. Isn’t it neat that everyone’s story is just a little bit different than everyone else’s in the world? A friend of mine met her husband while working at a university. From what I can gather, he was interested, but she was not. After some time had passed and they became friends, she was in a car accident which could have been fatal. He rushed to her side without a second thought – and I think from that … [Read more...]
How to Connect With Your Sweetie During Rough Patches in Your Relationship (April Showers, Part 1)
Rain is almost always accompanied by overcast skies, which can easily affect our moods. When rain comes, it ruins fun plans, makes driving more difficult, and keeps us indoors. It is so easy to blame the rain for all the negatives we see, but rain has such an important part to play in our world. Without it, we would run out of drinking water, crops would die, grass would turn brown and wither, and the hot sun would constantly plague us in the summer. We could not withstand the absence of rain. The same is true for difficult times in relationships. We don’t enjoy the challenging times, the … [Read more...]
Win a Date with Tad Hamilton (Movie Connections, Part 3)
Okay, so this movie is a bit off the beaten path. It was cute, but I doubt it will go down as one of the most beloved movies of the 21st century. However, there is something about it I have always loved: The love of your life being right in front of your eyes. Romances that grow out of solid friendships are my favorite love stories. A dear friend of mine grew up with her husband. She can remember him as a kid. How cool is that? He was in her life even when she was in a long-term relationship with someone else. When the dust settled, he was there loving her. ~smile~ Another friend of … [Read more...]
The Sound of Music (Movie Connections, Part 2)
“The hills are alive with the sound of music! With songs they have sung for a thousand years. The hills fill my heart with the sound of music. My heart wants to sing every song it hears.” The Sound of Music was undoubtedly one of my favorite childhood movies. Thinking about it now makes me want to pop it in the DVD player and sing along! We watch Maria, Julie Andrew’s character, grow from a rather flighty, adorable, kid into a responsible, irresistible woman. I can so easily relate to Maria in the beginning of the movie. Living in a convent and failing to live by the rules (not that I … [Read more...]
Runaway Bride (Movie Connections, Part 1)
To some, Runaway Bride is just a funny movie. To me... it was a story about... me. Thankfully, I have never left a man at the altar, but I have had recurring nightmares about it. I cannot tell you the number of times I have woken up with feelings of dread and anxiety after fleeing from the altar with reckless abandon. Once, I dreamed that my parents walked me down the aisle and then both marched out of the back doors of the church (I’m thinking they weren’t real happy with my groom selection). Another time, I dreamed I had to walk up a circular flight of stairs to get to the altar – and … [Read more...]
