Last week, a number of my Facebook friends shared a post by Russell Moore titled What I’ve Learned in Twenty Years of Marriage. Since this article was getting so many great reviews, I had to read it for myself! Though he has some good points, I found myself becoming more and more concerned as I read. Though I cannot be sure how he intended this article to come across to others, many people seem to be receiving it as though couples should marry as soon as they know (or think they know) who they want to marry – and also as though marrying young is preferable to marrying older (i.e., after … [Read more...]
Let It Go (Ode to Frozen, Part 2)
If there has ever been a song that makes me feel like a big kid, it is Let It Go! I will admit to everyone reading this that I sing this song at the top of my lungs at home, in the car, and slightly less forcefully in parking lots, drive thrus, and department stores. ~smile~ Like millions of parents in America, I’m sure I will get sick of it eventually – but it has not happened yet! Something about Let it Go makes me feel like I can conquer the world! I just adore inspirational songs. ~smile~ Many of us can relate to Elsa, which might be why her freedom cry is so popular with kids and … [Read more...]
Love is An Open Door (Ode to Frozen, Part 1)
Frozen! What an amazing movie. The first time I watched it, I thought it was pretty wonderful; but the more I watch it, the more I like it! You know a movie is good when you are willing to pay to see it on the big screen after you already own it. ~smile~ (My sweet sister-in-law bought it for me when it came out and we also saw it in our dollar theater.) If you have not seen it, I would encourage you to watch it at least once. Some people did not love it as much as I did, but that’s okay. Everyone can’t have great taste in movies. ~wink~ Perhaps what makes this movie so incredible is the … [Read more...]
How to Make your Sweetie Bloom (Happy “Water a Flower” Day!)
Today is “Water a Flower” Day! In honor of such a festive occasion, I think we all should plant some flowers, water them, and watch them grow (or, in our case, hire someone to do it and have the rain water them ~smile~). Neither Eric nor I have a green thumb, but I do enjoy the flowers that bloom in my neighbors’ yard each year. Their house is close enough to us that it is almost like having beautiful blooms in our own yard. Since everything goes back to relationships with me, the act of watering flowers makes me think of couples watering and nourishing each other. Many couples “plant … [Read more...]
Connecting with your Sweetie’s Friends
Eric has some terrific friends – some solid, God-fearing, edifying friends. They are top-notch husbands and fathers and I am so glad they are not afraid to be honest with Eric (and vice versa, of course ~smile~). Eric was the first in his group of friends to get married; so, in the beginning, we were the “old married couple” and our single friends would come over for birthday parties and game nights. But a few short years later, they all got married and had children. So, our time together is not the same. We have to be intentional to make sure we all see each other. One of his friends lives … [Read more...]
