“Digging your heels in does not mean you will not have to do it. It just means you will be that much more tired when you finally do.” – Heather Viets Did you catch our post, Quotes: Mouthfuls of Wisdom? If not, here is a brief excerpt: I’ve put up many fights in my time as a wife. I have even thrown a few tantrums. Eric wants us to grow and help other couples, but sometimes growth hurts and helping others requires being seen. Many of his ideas and desired paths have scared me, and I have pressed my heels into the ground as hard as I could – sometimes saying “no,” sometimes crying, … [Read more...]
A Letter to My Godfather on His First Birthday in Heaven
Happy Birthday in Heaven... ...Uncle Charles, Daddy #2, Candy Man... I have called you so many names over the years. It is hard to believe it has been three months since God called you home so unexpectedly. I remember you saying that when everyone else thought I was going to be a boy, you thought I was going to be a girl. I guess that is how far back our story goes. I was at your wedding – one of the youngest guests – with six months left to “bake” before I would meet you and my future godmother, Becky. I suppose I have never not known you. You have been there since before my daddy … [Read more...]

Is It Really Hormones – or Does She Just Hate Me?
It is that special time again. After weeks of smiling, kindness, shoulder rubs, and thoughtful phone conversations, your precious rose starts... changing. Suddenly, she begins offering short and edgy responses to perfectly normal questions. Then, she bats your hand away when you touch her. Her typically laid back driving is suddenly replaced with snide remarks, honking horns, and, dare I say, even the occasional hand gesture. Your jokes make her cry and your work stories make her laugh. Who is this crazy woman and how can I get my girlfriend back? Does this sound familiar? Some women … [Read more...]
Experience Friday: D-Day Memorial
Ever since I was a child, I have been fascinated by the World War II generation. In many cases, I prefer classic television over modern shows – back when fathers were portrayed as strong and wise, and mothers were feminine, kind, and nurturing. Just today, I found myself watching a black and white cooking show and longing to know what it was like to live in simpler times. I suppose “simpler” is in the eye of the beholder. Those living through World Wars I and II, the Great Depression, and the Korean War probably did not consider the early and mid-portions of the twentieth century to be all … [Read more...]
