This year has been a year of lessons – at least for me. Stop saying “no” to experiences. Procrastination is no way to live. Prepare for tomorrow without losing the moments we have today. Eric and I are learning to live in forward motion. Various experiences have shown us that a lifestyle of procrastination leads to frustration and heart break. We have kept a mental to do list for years, but taken few steps to complete the tasks. Slowly but surely God is compelling us to release the emergency break and drive. Tomorrow is never promised. Nothing has driven this point home to me more than … [Read more...]
Experience Friday: Drumstick Dash (Move Your Feet So Others Can Eat!)
Did you have the best Thanksgiving ever? I certainly hope so! Mine was... different, but good. ~smile~ Recently, my Thanksgivings have consisted of getting up and driving to spend a leisurely day with my brother-in-law, sister-in-law, Eric, and the pups. Our typical agenda? Cook, eat, laze around, play cards, and eat some more. It is my idea of a good time! This year, we shook it up a bit. At least, my sister-in-law and I did! We got up bright and early, put on some warm clothes, and participated in a Thanksgiving 5k – the Drumstick Dash. Before you get too excited, I should confess... we … [Read more...]
Five Experiences which Will Enhance your Thanksgiving Holiday
The Year of Experiences at PreEngaged is winding down and it has been a good one. It has been sad at times, exciting at others, and there have even been moments of despair; but, it has not been boring. When you make up your mind that you are going to live life in drive (versus neutral), boredom leaves you alone. There is always something you can do when you find yourself in a rut. It just takes some energy to get the car moving. Once it is in motion, it is easier to keep it in motion. If you have also been enjoying a year of experiences, make sure to continue your celebration this … [Read more...]
Why I am Thankful for the Pain
“Thank You for the trials For the fire, for the pain. Thank You for the strength Knowing You have ordained Every day.” – Joel Sczebel and Todd Twining These lyrics struck me the first time I heard them a few years ago. Though I do not ask God for trials, I am thankful for the ones He has chosen for me – as strange as that may sound. Some trials are God-ordained. He allows us to go through them to sanctify us and make us more Christ-like. Other trials we bring on ourselves by making poor choices. (I have surely endured my share of those.) Have we not all struggled with the … [Read more...]
What Part does Gratitude Play in My Relationship?
Sometimes I struggle to be happily married – this is no secret to Eric. (He understands because he sometimes struggles too.) Some days it is terrifying to think, “This is for a lifetime,” especially when life gets busy and we find little time to connect. If I am not careful, those fears and negative thoughts can take over my mind and leave me questioning everything. Self-inflicted despair. Looking at the whole fifty years at once makes any marriage seem overwhelming, which is why I am learning to take my marriage a day at a time. God knows what tomorrow has in store for me. Today is all I … [Read more...]
