Like many typical women, I love romantic comedies. There is something so exciting about boy meeting girl, boy and girl "falling" in love, boy and girl fighting, and then boy and girl getting back together again. Movies of this sort repeatedly have the same plot with different characters. It is not uncommon to get to the end of a romantic comedy, or a romantic drama, and hear the main characters tell each other things like, "You're all that I need," or "You are my everything!" In the moment, it can seem like such a wonderfully romantic phrase, but in a real life relationship, phrases like those … [Read more...]
Jumping Off a Cliff into Culinary Delight
Recently, Eric and I celebrated an anniversary and, as is custom, Eric chose for us a special place to eat. He usually takes me to a fun, new place for special occasions; and while he plans to keep the place a secret, he usually asks me at the last minute if I want to know where we are going... and I almost always do. When it comes to food (and life), my natural inclination is to prepare. I don't want to be craving steak only to end up at the world's greatest pizza restaurant (although I can almost always shift my taste buds for pizza). So, where did he take me? Eric took me to a tapas bar. … [Read more...]
Are you Wrapped Up in a Distracting Relationship?
One of the most drama filled domains in life is a female college dorm. Fifty or more young women, all at a crossroads in life, stuffed into a small area to cry all over each other. On one day, college guys are considered immature and barbaric – and the next day, they are sweet, understanding, and godly. Just walking down the hall to the bathroom, you are likely to hear a thunderous display of fury as a sweet young lady clutches her phone in a death grip and screams out all of her boyfriend's faults. The next day, the same young lady is surrounded by friends as she fixes her hair, puts on her … [Read more...]
Obtaining Insider Information about Your Boyfriend/Girlfriend
When I was in high school and college, I received many “getting to know you” quizzes by e-mail. Some of them are very similar to others, and some are off the wall; but, most of us enjoy filling them out because, well, we like to talk about ourselves and share our lives with others. It is fun being asked all kinds of ridiculous questions all revolving around our likes, dislikes, the color of our socks, our favorite movie, and the last person we spoke to on the phone. I guess there is just that part in all of us that enjoys talking about the person we think about all the time: “me.” When Eric … [Read more...]
Relationship Shadowing
When planning a career, one of the best things a person can do is shadow someone currently working in that profession. Interviewing the workers can be beneficial, but watching them perform their actual work helps bring your understanding of what they do to a higher level. When I was around fifteen years old, I was toying with the idea of going into law. My mom worked it out for me to volunteer a few hours a week in a law office in town, and I found out quickly that the law profession was not for me. A few weeks after I'd been there, I went to court to watch one of the attorneys in action. … [Read more...]
