Creating good habits early in your marriage is crucially important in a Christian marriage. One such area where it is important to become consistent is… tithing. If you have been tithing regularly since you were young, this may not be a contentious topic for you. If you have not, it could even seem like a financial impossibility. In either case, let me encourage you... I have never met anyone who tithes faithfully destroyed over financial issues. In Malachi 3:10-12, God says "Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says … [Read more...]
When are Girls Ready to Date?
A few weeks ago, my husband wrote a popular post titled: When are Guys Ready to Date? (The Quest for Authentic Manhood). To piggy back off of that, I’m going to discuss how to tell when a girl is ready to date. When I was younger, it felt like the age of sixteen would never come. For years, I heard my parents say that I couldn't date until I was sixteen. Personally, I thought I was ready to date at age nine (but, I was obviously wrong). Because I attended church youth groups and other youth activities, I had the ability to have boyfriends, and spend ample time with them, before I was … [Read more...]
How Much Did that Gift (or Gifts) Cost You?
Who doesn't love a gift? I'm sure there are some who don't care as much for the material items of life; yet, the vast majority of people enjoy receiving gifts. When you get a little older, the excitement and wonder is still there, but you may find that you have a little more control over the "waiting" that comes with Christmas and birthdays. Then, you begin to enter opposite sex relationships and before you know it, … [Read more...]
Document Your Love Story
Several months back, I blogged about my grandparents’ love story. They met through letters when my Granny was fourteen. My Granddaddy met my Granny's brother during World War II and after seeing a picture of my Granny, he was eager to get to know her better. By the end of his time overseas, he was writing her twelve page letters every day. Sadly, when they married and she moved from Highpoint to New Bern, she had to pack everything into a small space (they were travelling by bus), and she could not bring the letters with her. She burned them in her fireplace, so they must have been juicy … [Read more...]
Smart Phone Love (Distracting Technology)
A few weeks ago, I bought my first smart phone with an unlimited plan, so I can finally text for the first time ever (without it costing me for each text, anyway – my last cell phone was five years old!). Before getting the phone, I thought I would call on it, text on it, and occasionally download on app. Well, let's just say the first night I had it, I spent hours exploring different apps and downloaded a ton of interesting things. Eric and I texted each other from the next room (just because we could) and, at one point, we were sitting in the same room… not talking… and each looking down at … [Read more...]
