Eric is characterized by having one idea after another. His mind is always working and thinking of new ways to accomplish tasks, new services that can be provided to bless people, or new ways to have fun. For a long time, he would come home from work and immediately share with me the new ideas he had thought of during the day. In his mind, he was simply sharing his ideas (which for someone with his personality is a big deal), but in my mind, he was bombarding me with new tasks that needed to be researched and implemented into our lives. After several years of marriage, I realized that when … [Read more...]
Are Unrealistic Goals or Expectations Sabotaging Your Life?
As some of you know, I have recently started a weight loss journey. A couple months ago, I was lying in bed and the thought crossed my mind, “I’m not willing to be fat anymore!” I’ve heard it said that change happens when the cost of staying the same is greater than the cost of making difficult life adjustments. I’m not quite sure what got me to that breaking point, but ever since then I’ve been looking forward to becoming healthy and doing activities I have been unable to do, or uncomfortable doing, at my current weight. A few years ago, I did Weight Watchers (WW) online; but, after a few … [Read more...]
Every Man is a Quotation from All His Ancestors
This post's title comes from Ralph Waldo Emerson. I saw it and thought it would be a good title for another post of quotes! “You can measure the happiness of a marriage by the number of scars that each partner carries on their tongues, earned from years of biting back angry words.” -- Elizabeth Gilbert, Committed: A Skeptic Makes Peace with Marriage When you are furious, that is the best time not to speak. Take some time away from the situation and breathe, pray, and calm down. After settling down, return to your spouse and rationally work through the problem. You can come back to an … [Read more...]
A Milestone Birthday Diary
The house is quiet. My kitchen table is covered with birthday gifts – all laid out so I can admire them for a few days before putting them away. This has been quite a day. This morning, I went to a baby shower for one of the precious ladies at our church. Celebrating new life is a reminder of how amazing our God is to us. When he blesses a family with a new baby, he also blesses those around that child. What a joy babies bring into the world. No room is the same after a baby enters. As the day continued, I picked up my sister-in-law and we spent the day together. Spending time with … [Read more...]
The Chief Cause of Failure and Unhappiness Is…
One of my favorite quotes is from Zig Ziglar. He said, “The chief cause of failure and unhappiness is trading what you want most for what you want right now.” I keep this quote in front of my elliptical trainer because what I want most is to be healthy and raise a family, but what I want right now is to quit exercising. It’s true that anything worth having is worth fighting for. When I was a teenager, I wanted to know that someday I would have a great marriage to a loving, strong man. My heart’s desire was to be married to one man for life. My plan was always to get married after I finished … [Read more...]
