“What in the world are you talking about, Heather? What does that even mean?” Glad you asked! ~smile~ In terms of personal health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention defines being overweight as “an adult who has a body mass index (BMI) between 25 and 29.9” and they define being obese as “an adult who has a BMI of 30 or higher.” I’ve always considered weight gain to be a progression from normal to overweight to obese; however, according to the U.S. Library of Medicine, being obese is not the same as being overweight because some people can be considered overweight due to larger … [Read more...]
Is Technology Slowly Ruining Your Relationship?
Most of us already know this, but it bears repeating: we can accomplish so much more when we turn off the TV! Confession time: I love watching television and movies. {Eric’s note: The previous sentence is an understatement! ~smile~) If I’m left to my own devices I will find myself in the middle of an Andy Griffith marathon. My attention span does not allow me to simply sit and watch for hours on end, so I usually pair my favorite shows with perusing Facebook, checking e-mails, attempting to write, or looking up gift ideas for people online. Notice I said attempting to write. When I try to … [Read more...]
Taking the First Step
I’m sitting here at my computer, occasionally looking out of my front window, thinking about how much I would love to stay in and not walk today. It’s easy to assume couples in the separation process passionately hate each other and that’s not always the case. Sometimes a couple … [Read more...]
What Not to Say to Those Going Through a Breakup (What Not to Say, Part 5)
Christian comedian Mark Lowry once asked his audience how many of them had ever had a broken heart. Seeing that a few hands weren’t raised he replied, “The rest of you haven’t hit puberty yet, I guess.” Unfortunately, heartaches are a part of life. Few people are exempt. Some heartaches come suddenly with the news of a lost loved one. Some heartaches linger while we wait for our desires to be fulfilled. And some heartaches happen as the result of rejection and broken promises. At some time or another, most of us experience the pain of a break up – and, most of us will experience the pain of … [Read more...]
