One of the pieces of advice we share with our client couples is: make your wedding memorable. This is a day to honor and glorify God, but He is also glorified when we are having righteous fun. If your personality styles are more extroverted and playful, you may want to have fun and ham it up. If your personality styles are more traditional, you can have a more pristine, elegant wedding. Many of your friends and family are going to have opinions about what you should and shouldn't do on your wedding celebration. For a period of time, you should listen to them all and compile a list. At some … [Read more...]
Mom (Tara Leigh Cobble)
I first met Tara Leigh Cobble a decade ago as a girl travelling the country doing concerts. Today, she has matured as an independent artist and has amazing talent - and is still travelling the country doing concerts. Her last CD, "Morning's War" was in my car's CD player for months (the dynamics, thoughtfulness, and artistry of the music are amazing - I especially liked the percussion in the album). She's also an author of two books and on her way to writing a third. For Mother's Day, today, she wrote a blog post about her mom. I found it insightful and thought I would share it with … [Read more...]
Don’t Run From Your Calling (National Geographic – Close Encounters of the Giant Kind)
When God called Jonah to go to the people of Nineveh, he went in the opposite direction - toward Tarshish (Jonah 1:2-3). Most of us have learned in Sunday School as children that he went into the belly of a great fish (and many people today think it was a whale) and was spat upon land three days later (can you imagine the stench?). I saw the below National Geographic video recently of a picture of a whale approaching a man and was amazed at the enormity of the size differences. This helps put this story into more perspective. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0_h3AAn7Pk However, the … [Read more...]
An Omission of Obedience (Prince William and Kate Middleton Exchanging Wedding Vows)
It has been estimated that about 20% of the world's population watched Prince William and Kate Middleton join together in holy matrimony. Yet one of the interesting things that piqued my interest was that Kate wanted the traditional vows changed. Apparently, she did not want to vow to "love, honor, and obey" her husband; rather, she vowed to "love and cherish" her husband. Take a look and watch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oD0XUcJ9stM What I find interesting is the combination of these two things: 1. Kate Middleton purposely took out of the vows to "honor and obey" her … [Read more...]
Perfect Practice Makes Perfect (Chip Ritter – Drummers for Jesus 2010)
It has been said that "practice makes perfect." Unfortunately, that is not true. If a person practices the wrong thing repeatedly, then they will get very good at doing the wrong thing. That is why perfect practice makes perfect. To become proficient at a skill, one must dedicate time and energy to practicing the right thing and getting better at it. One of my hobbies is playing the drums; so, when I found the below video, I was impressed! Consider the amount of time it must have taken him to learn to juggle, and practice juggling, drumsticks while playing the … [Read more...]
