In the below (adorable) clip, Grover from Sesame Street discusses what marriage is with Jesse. This is actually an important topic to discuss with children because it is at this point in their lives that they are learning what life, including marriage, is all about. For fun, and to be of some help, spend some time serving children during children's church and talk to them about relationships and marriage. See what they say and help them to understand what the Bible says. You and they will both be blessed for it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQJvSzkVfRg … [Read more...]
Slow Fade (Casting Crowns)
If you haven't seen the movie Fireproof yet, you're missing out on the best movie ever made about marital strife and reconciliation. In the movie, there is a song by Casting Crowns called Slow Fade. The song is about how people typically end up making a series of choices, not a single choice, that end up destroying their relationships and lives. The video for the song is powerful, please take a few minutes to watch it. Additionally, the second video is of Mark Hall, lead singer of Casting Crowns and youth pastor, doing a quick devotional on the concepts behind Slow Fade. I hope these … [Read more...]
Marriage as a Way to Grow Closer to God (Gary Thomas)
One of the books we encourage our clients to read is Sacred Marriage by Gary Thomas. I love the sub-title of the book as well: "What if God designed marriage to make us holy more than to make us happy?" It's a striking question that really is worth our time to ponder. In the book, he relates many different aspects of marriage and how each ties to an aspect of our relationship with God. Here are just a few of some of the chapter subjects: How Marriage Teaches Us to Love How Marriage Exposes Our Sin How Marriage Teaches Us to Forgive How Marriage Can Make Us More Aware of God's … [Read more...]
How to Tell if a Man is Marriage Material (Eric Ludy)
The audience in the video is somewhat younger than the audience to which we often cater here at PreEngaged; however, the principles still apply. In this video, Eric Ludy talks to a group of girls about how to tell when a guy is worthy to pursue her. This video is challenging for both men and women as it presents a standard for men to reach and a standard for women to not accept anything less than it. Let us know what you think in the comments! (My apologies for the video quality; however, the audio is perfectly fine.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTnCvrBexNk … [Read more...]
Words are Always Dessert
"Words are always dessert." Those words caught my eyes and I knew I had to read further. One of my friends posted up a link to a blog titled: "One Habit that Radically Changes a Family." After reading it, I knew that I had to link to it from PreEngaged so that you could enjoy it as well. It refers to a practice that you can institute now and institute with the future family with which God blesses you. Here's just a taste of the post by Ann Voskamp: "It’s the way he was raised, the way his parents had been raised back in the homeland. You never leave the table without chewing the Real … [Read more...]
