It is an early Easter this year! Some may even be having Easter egg hunts in the snow!
In honor of the Year of Blessings, here are six ways to love your sweetheart and spread Christ’s love to others with simple plastic Easter eggs!
Have a blast!
Blessing Your Sweetheart:
- Easter egg treasure hunt! Plant eggs all around town. Hand your sweetie the first egg containing the first clue. In each egg, list the next clue. In the final egg, write a special surprise! “Heather, waiting for you at home is an eight-foot, plush teddy bear and a huge box of chocolates.” (The thought makes my heart smile. ~wink~)
- A Week of Easter daily egg gifts. There are multiple ways you can do this. You can give your sweetie an egg every day for a week (or month) and fill it with love notes, candy, coupons for something fun, or a mix to keep it interesting. You can also give your sweetie an egg each day with a clue leading up to a special gift at the end of the week. You may even consider giving him or her trip eggs – an egg each day with a surprise “trip” inside. One trip can be to his or her favorite coffee shop. Another trip can be to the park for a picnic. The point being to spend more time together. If possible, you can even plan a day trip to a new place your sweetheart wants to visit.
- Phantom Easter Bunny. Make your sweetie’s day, week, or month by strategically placing surprise eggs all over the place. This will take some planning and dedication. “She’s at the gym. I will sneak a special egg in her passenger’s seat!” “He is giving a presentation at work. I will leave an egg with the receptionist to pass on to him when he finishes.” Eggs in lunch bags. Eggs in flower pots. Eggs in remote parts of his or her refrigerator. Leave your honey wondering when or where the Phantom Bunny will strike next. Sounds like fun to me!
Blessing Others:
- Have a neighborhood or church Easter Egg Hunt – one for children and one for adults. For the children, fill the eggs with candy, small toys, and maybe a grand prize $10 Toys-R-Us gift card. For the adults, fill the eggs with candy; coupons (as small as 50cents off ground chuck and as awesome as one free lawn mowing this Spring!); and, if you have it to spare, money. Be sure to video the adults clamoring around the yard for eggs! (Youtube, anyone?)
- Go door-to-door with your boyfriend or girlfriend and pass out Easter eggs to your neighbors – especially ones with children and the elderly. You can fill them as creatively as you would like while also adding gospel tracts, slips of paper with Scripture, a formal invite to your church, or maybe even an email address they can use to send prayer requests. In fact, if you feel so inclined, you can talk to them about Christ right there and offer to pray for or with them.
- Mail eggs to your out of town friends and family. With Easter right around the corner, these packages need to be sent today or tomorrow; however, belated Easter eggs are still a blessing. ~smile~ If I was sending eggs to my friend, Lauran, I would fill them with chocolate and include a written comment I felt certain would make her laugh. If I was sending eggs to my Dad, I would include Andy Griffith quotes and money to buy himself some pork cracklings (cannot fit too many of them in a plastic egg!). Think about what your friends and relatives enjoy most and ship those treats to their doors! And, if they need some encouragement, slip them a note as well!
Need Gift Ideas?
If you want to touch someone’s heart with a special gift, check out Gift-Giving By Personality Type. It offers seven gift ideas for each of the sixteen Myers-Briggs personality types. When I buy Eric presents I think he should like, he is often disappointed; but, when I take the time to consider who he is and what he desires, I make much better choices!
Gifts are sweet when they come from the heart, and they are awesome when they say, “I love you and I get you.” As we remember Christ’s sacrifice this Easter (as well as the rest of the year), let us take the opportunity to spread fun, laughs, and the gospel’s hope with a few colorful plastic eggs.
